2012. The first-ever official Russian Mixed Martial Arts Championship, held under the auspices of the newly established Russian MMA Union, took place. The 93 kg weight class finals pitted Magomed Ismailov, representing the Moscow Region, against Rashid Yusupov (Gorets Club), representing the Republic of Dagestan. This marked the beginning of a glorious fighting career for two future renowned fighters, one of whom became the M-1 Challenge champion and won numerous titles in amateur mixed martial arts, while the other would become one of the most charismatic and hyped figures in all of Russian POP-MMA. The finals were held as part of the M-1 Challenge 34 international tournament.
