A title fight is always a special occasion. Only the most worthy and tough fighters get a chance to fight for it. Spectators eagerly await such fights, and experts pay special attention to them. A belt fight is always a real test of fortitude, talent and preparation.
On July 22, 2017, the Republic of Ingushetia hosted the annual traditional Battle in the Mountains tournament. The main fight of the evening was for the M-1 Challenge bantamweight champion belt. Pavel Vitruk held a whole scattering of titles in striking sports and was a three-time St. Petersburg champion in Thai boxing, Russian champion in UKADO and winner of the Alexander Nevsky Cup and the Spirit of the Warrior Grand Prix. Almost his entire career at that time was spent in M-1 Global and he was the first M-1 Challenge bantamweight champion. This fight was supposed to be his first defense.
Pavel’s opponent was Movsar Evloev, at that time a rising star of Russian mixed martial arts. He had fought all his fights at tournaments under the auspices of M-1 Global and had won 7 of them, with only the experienced American Lee Morrison managing to go through all three rounds with Movsar. Evloev defeated the rest ahead of schedule and won the title of interim champion in his last fight. With each fight, Movsar progressed and improved both in technique and physical strength, and that day he was ready to challenge an experienced opponent to try to take his title.
