On Friday, Sept. 18, history was made as the World Series of Fighting held its 23rd event from the Comerica Theatre in Phoenix.
The nightβs co-main event featured gold on the line as WSOF crowned its inaugural light heavyweight champion. The title tilt pitted the promotionβs middleweight kingpin, Dave Branch, against surprising tournament finalist Teddy Holder. Branch bested Jesse McElligott to claim his spot in the final, while Holder upset UFC veteran Thiago Silva to earn his chance at the belt.
Branch accomplished a pretty rare feat in MMA by simultaneously holding two belts in one major promotion.
Branch moved to a perfect 7-0 under the WSOF banner and added the inaugural light-heavyweight title to his collection with a dominant win over Holder.
