Wushu World Champion Rene Catalan met the love of his life and future wife in 1995 when he was in high school. While he was living abroad and just starting to coach the Canada National Team, his wife back home in the Philippines was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism — a serious medical condition that needed urgent care. Catalan relocated to China to save money for his wife’s treatment, but she tragically passed before he was able to come back. “The Challenger” recounts the catastrophic tragedy of losing his late wife and the drive it has given him to provide the best life for his children.
