Alexander Emelianenko’s long and eventful career included numerous fights against a wide variety of opponents. These were stellar and tough fighters from various countries who weren’t afraid to challenge the formidable Russian striker.
Today, we’ll watch a fight that was significant and important for both Alexander and his opponent. It took place at the end of 2011, at a mixed martial arts tournament in Almaty. Less than a month and a half had passed since his sensational and resounding knockout loss to Magomed Malikov, and Emelianenko was already preparing for his next fight.
He faced a local favorite, Kazakhstan freestyle wrestling champion and winner of several mixed martial arts tournaments, Tolegen Akylbekov, nicknamed “Attila.” The Kazakh fighter was smaller than his star opponent, but he fearlessly accepted the challenge.
