Fedor Emelianenko’s fights in Pride, Strikeforce, Bellator, Fight Nights or M-1 are real blockbusters in the history of mixed martial arts, known all over the world and have become real classics. But many viewers miss the formation of the young Fedor, which took place at the Rings tournaments in Japan, where he gained experience and perfected his style, which a couple of years later would make him the most dominant fighter on the planet. One of these fights was the semi-final fight of the Rings World Title Series Grand Prix at the end of 2001. In the ¼ finals, Emelianenko defeated the powerful Japanese Ryushi Yanagisawa by unanimous decision and was supposed to meet the English fighter Lee Hasdell in the semi-finals. Hasdell was a large heavyweight with good universal technique. He was a multiple English kickboxing champion, had a black belt in karate, in which he would reach 7th dan, and managed to fight in a large number of tournaments around the world. All his victories were won ahead of schedule, and in the quarterfinals he knocked out Bulgarian Georgiy Tonkov and was going to use his striking skills on the young Russian heavyweight.
