Heavyweight fights always generate intense interest among spectators. Especially when they’re between two formidable giants, who have fought in organizations like Pride, K-1, and Shooto and have 37 scalps between them.
After a sensational loss to Magomed Malikov, Alexander Emelianenko was making every effort to return to action as quickly as possible and resume his crushing reign. His next opponent was supposed to be Kenny Garner, but an injury interfered with those plans, and the fight was instead against the Lithuanian Bear Tadas Rimkevicius, who was as big and had a record as he. This fight took place on March 16, 2012, at the M-1 Challenge 31 tournament at the Ice Palace in St. Petersburg.
Having begun his career in the Lithuanian Shooto and K-1 HERO’S tournaments, Tadas won 10 of 10 fights in a row and earned an invitation to the Cage Warriors tournament in England. After that, he competed in many tournaments and, by the time of his fight with Emelianenko, had 25 fights under his belt, winning 19 of them. Tadas had already fought Antonio Silva, Kostya Glukhov, and Harry Goodridge, and the fight against Alexander didn’t frighten him at all; instead, he saw it as another step up to the top of MMA.
