The other day, the honored veteran of Russian mixed martial arts Alexey Oleinik turned 44 years old. It’s simply amazing, but he started fighting back in 1996, when the name fights without rules was in use, and he still competes in the UFC. Uncle Lesha had 76 professional fights, and we will tell you about one of them today.
In 2008 and 2009, the first ever team world championship in mixed martial arts M-1 Challenge was held. The Dutch team and the Red Devil club from Russia made it to the final of the first tournament. Before the final, the management of the Russian team decided to strengthen its roster and Alexey Oleinik was invited in the heavyweight division.
His opponent was supposed to be one of the leaders of the Dutch team – the healthy Jesse Gibbs, who before coming to MMA became the European champion in Kyokushin karate three times and won many international tournaments in jiu-jitsu. He won all four fights on the way to the final ahead of schedule, including a choke on Akhmed Sultanov. But Alexey was not at all embarrassed by his opponent’s size or his achievements, and he accepted this challenge with his usual composure.
