In the more than 20-year history of M-1 tournaments, there have been many colorful and controversial fighters who made a spectacle of their fights or distinguished themselves with unconventional entrances.
One of them was Japanese fighter Yuji Hisamatsu, known for his menacing and brutal nickname “Pink Typhoon,” who came to St. Petersburg in December 2003 to compete in the Russia vs. World 7 tournament. Despite his somewhat controversial image, the Japanese fighter was a highly experienced fighter, boasting 10 wins in 19 fights over three years and competing in renowned promotions such as Pancrase and Deep.
His opponent was the rising 21-year-old Denis Komkin, nicknamed “The Siberian Bear,” whose heavyweight bouts you’ve likely already seen on our channel. But in his younger years, the Russian was more athletic and competed in the welterweight division, his main weapons being powerful punches and swift submissions. This was only Denis’s fifth professional fight, but he was determined to take on his more experienced opponent.
