He was one of the first to create the vibrant and colorful image of a fighter who could enter a fight with flair and put on a spectacular show. A young yet highly technical athlete, a master of sports in four martial arts, he understood what audiences wanted 10 years ago and gave them not only fights but also shows.
This fighter began competing in M-1 tournaments in 2004 and was known for many years as Sultan Tikhaev. Starting in 2007, he left M-1 and had numerous winning fights in various organizations, before returning to M-1 Global tournaments in 2011 as a true star of Russian MMA. Even then, he was known as Alexander Yakovlev, nicknamed “Bad Boy.” In 2014, he signed with the UFC, and to date, he has nine fights under his belt in the Octagon. Today we’ll tell you about the M-1 Challenge 25 tournament, where Alexander faced an equally colorful and daring fighter. Christian Eckerlin was the champion of the German GMC organization, a winner of several boxing tournaments, and undefeated in the professional arena. At the time, he had six stoppage wins in six fights and was considered the top European welterweight prospect, poised to make a triumphant entrance into the Russian ring. Incidentally, Christian will soon be competing at the Bellator tournament in Moscow, the same one where Fedor Emelianenko will face Timothy Johnson.
