Details on UFC programming scheduled to air on the new Fox Sports 1 channel, which is set to launch on August 17th.
Starting August 17th, the UFC will no longer air content on FX or Fuel TV. Instead, programming will be shifted to the new Fox Sports 1 channel. In an official press release by Fox Sports, they detailed what fans can expect as far as UFC programming. They also announced that the first UFC live fight card to air on Fox Sports will air on launch night, and will be given the incredibly clever title of “UFC on FS1 1”.
In fact, the schedule on Aug. 17 features live events morning, noon and night including a NASCAR Camping World Truck Series race from Michigan and “UFC on FS1 1” in prime time.
Now that that news is cleared up, here’s what else is on tap for “UFC on Fox Sports”:
Featured on Wednesday nights; live FIGHT NIGHTS through 2014, the first is scheduled for launch night, Saturday, Aug. 17; FOX event preliminary cards; UFC Tonight, the weekly authority for UFC news and information; 14 Saturday pay-per-view preliminary cards; hundreds of hours of library programs and events.
So if you were wondering about the future of the Saturday-scheduled UFC on FOX and PPV preliminary cards, they’ve simply been moved from FX to FS1. The “hundreds of hours of library programs and events” likely means that UFC Unleashed, replays of older events, Countdown, Primetime, etc. will be under the same umbrella.
As of this writing, there has been no mention of the future of The Ultimate Fighter, and whether or not it will stay on FX as “entertainment” or if it will even continue in the US at all.
UPDATE at 3:53 PM ET: The 2nd Fox Sports card is being planned for December.
UPDATE II at 3:54 PM ET: Richard Deitsch spoke with Dana White, who confirms the UFC cards will not be weekly, bi-weekly, or anything like that. It will be on Wednesdays, and 12 fight cards on Fox Sports 1.
